Derma Fillers

Dermal Fillers have been FDA approved for use in cosmetic treatments.

The purpose of Dermal Fillers is to temporarily enhance facial features, replace lost volume and restore contours to the skin to smooth away moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Continued treatments are necessary to maintain the effect over time. The body will slowly absorb hyaluronic acid once injected.

The length of effect is variable. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found within all mammals in most soft tissues. Hyaluronic acid draws water to the area treated and stimulates collagen production. Hyaluronic acid depletes as we age.

Other fillers may differ in their chemical composition and are classed as Bio-stimulators. They contain aqueous carboxymethyl cellulose. The benefits of fillers are that they act as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and stimulating your own natural collagen to grow.

Facial Threads

This is a cosmetic procedure which is classified as minimally invasive

They are essentially sutures made from various biodegradable medical polymers such as polydioxanone (PDO) polylactic acid (PLA) or polycaprolactone (PCL).

All these sutures have been used for many years in surgery. They are placed strategically in the face or body to lift sagging skin. Sutures may have a lifting effect made possible by barbs, hooks or cones while others are simple and only work by inducing collagen production.

Sagging skin of the lower face and jowls are ideal for this treatment creating a more youthful and contoured silhouette. The skin becomes firmer and tighter thus enhancing the lift.

The duration of effect varies depending on the type of suture used. Some last just a few months but others may last up to 18 months. The collagen which is induced by the thread may last much longer.

Reduced downtime and costs make it a favourable option, but the lifting effects are temporary and subtle. Side-effects are bruising and swelling.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP, used in mesotherapy and microneedling, is a powerful anti-aging treatment option

It requires minimal to no downtime. Your own blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge. The plasma is withdrawn and then injected back into the skin. PRP contains an abundance of growth factors released by platelets in your blood. These growth factors then fuel the production of collagen in the skin.

PRP can also be used for ligament, tendon or cartilage repair around joints in prolotherapy. It is also used as an effective treatment for hair loss, wound repair, dental care and many other areas of medicine. The uses of PRP are rapidly expanding.

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive technique that uses fine needles to deliver a cocktail of ingredients to the mesoderm or middle layer of the skin. It can be used to treat chronic pain, dissolve fat, stimulate hair growth, improving blood circulation or stimulate collagen production in the skin.

Lipolytic injections

A form of mesotherapy classified as minimally invasive

Lipolytic injections of cocktails break down fat cells and cause lipolysis. The treatment is ideal for localized fat deposits on the body or face. Large jowels, nasolabial folds or submental fat can safely be treated with a solution called Ceccarelli’s Solution.

Created by Professor of physiological and aesthetic medicine, Maurizio Ceccarelli, the solution contains a cocktail of iron and vitamin c which safely signals cell death of the fat cells. Several treatments are required for the desired results.

Stronger lipolytic agents called PPC and Deoxycholate are also available. They cause more inflammation with redness and swelling and require more downtime to recover.

Every procedure to inject soft tissue materials involves a certain amount of risk. It is important to discuss the possibility of this in your initial consultation with Dr Frere. Follow your pre- and post-care instructions and be sure to arrange a follow up consultation.

Proven Medical Weigh Loss Program

The age-old theory of “calories in-calories out” has been debunked. We now know that overweight or obesity are associated with significant inflammation and many other hormonal factors. Possible hormonal co-morbidities include:

  1. Hypothyroidism (an under active thyroid)
  2. Insulin resistance

At Best You Medical, the root cause for your weight issue will be identified and treated. Dr Frere also offers the Slender Wonder™ Weight Loss/HCG diet but the solution for the unique individual will be chosen in consultation with you. There is no “one-size fits all” diet or weight loss solution.

Let us assist you in your weight loss journey.
